Baynton West Primary School

Baynton West Primary School is a purpose built Independent Public School built in 2013 in a new suburb of Karratha in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.  The school is a focal point for the community whereby a large playground and community oval has dual use by the Shire and the school.

The project created unique challenges associated with the geographical location scope and involved landscape design, irrigation consultancy and contract management.  The landscape design included site specific drainage solutions required for cyclone regions and the development of an environmentally sustainable dual feed irrigation system combining scheme and Re-use water and sustainability initiatives.

Public Art integration within the landscape and architectural form created visually and creatively challenging landscapes.  The artwork became part of the landscape and architectural form as well as providing challenging visual, tactile and educational forms within the landscape. Care would be taken to maximize the arts visual effects as well as provide additional elements within the landscape to compliment the art installation
